What is SILS (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery)?
SILS is a surgical procedure performed through a single small incision in the abdomen. This technique is especially used in gallbladder surgeries and leaves less cosmetic scarring and a faster healing process. We successfully apply this method in our hospital in Çiğli, Izmir and ensure that patients have a more comfortable recovery process.
How is it done?
- The operation is usually performed through the belly button. A small incision about 2 cm in size is made here.
- Through this incision, a special instrument (multi-channel trocar) is used to insert a camera and surgical instruments. This allows the surgeon to see clearly into the abdomen and perform the operation.
- The gallbladder is removed through this small incision and the surgeon performs the procedure precisely, monitoring the image on the monitor.
In Which Conditions Is It Done? (Gallbladder Diseases)
The following symptoms can be seen in gallbladder problems:
- Sudden and severe pain in the right upper abdomen
- Nausea and vomiting
- Digestive problems, especially after eating fatty foods
- Fever and chills (in case of gallbladder inflammation)
- Jaundice (when obstruction occurs in the bile ducts)
What are the Treatment Methods?
- SILS (Single Incision Surgery): The gallbladder is removed through a small incision in the belly button.
- Traditional Laparoscopic Surgery: It is performed through multiple small incisions and the healing process is fast.
- Open Surgery: In some rare and complicated cases, surgery is performed through a larger incision. This method may require a longer recovery period.
Thanks to the SILS method, patients feel less pain after surgery and can return to their daily lives in a short time.
