Minimally Invasive Surgery

What is Minimally Invasive Surgery?

Minimally invasive surgery is an alternative to open surgery that is performed through smaller incisions. This technique speeds up the post-operative healing process, allows the patient to feel less pain and leaves less scarring on the skin. We successfully apply this surgical method in our hospital in Çiğli, Izmir.

How is it done?

  • During the surgical procedure, small incisions, usually 0.5-1 cm in size, are made in the affected area of the body.
  • A camera (laparoscope) and special surgical instruments are inserted through these small incisions. The camera allows the surgeon to see the internal structures in detail on the screen.
  • This allows the surgeon to operate and intervene precisely without making a large incision inside the body. This technique allows the patient to recover more quickly after surgery and stay in hospital for a shorter period of time.

In which cases is it applied?

Minimally invasive surgery is used to treat many different health problems. The reason for its application varies depending on the type of disease. In general, it is preferred in the following cases:

  • Pain or discomfort in the abdomen
  • Digestive system problems
  • Improper functioning or dysfunction of organs
  • Presence of a mass, cyst or tumor in the abdomen or body

What are the Treatment Methods?

  • Laparoscopic Surgery: It includes operations performed through small incisions in the abdomen and pelvic organs. Organs such as the gallbladder and appendicitis are treated with this method.
  • Endoscopic Surgery: Surgery performed by entering through the body’s natural cavities such as the mouth and nose. For example, it is used for stomach or intestinal problems.
  • Robotic Surgery: A method in which the surgeon performs surgery with high precision by guiding robotic arms. This method is especially advantageous when working on sensitive tissues.

These surgical methods are planned according to the type of disease and the patient’s condition and the most appropriate one is chosen.
