Minimally Invasive Hernia Surgery

What is Hernia (Hernia)?

A hernia is a condition in which organs or tissues in the abdomen protrude through a weak point in the abdominal wall. This condition is usually seen in the groin, navel or previously operated areas. Minimally Invasive Hernia Surgery allows the hernia to be repaired through small incisions, resulting in less tissue damage and a faster healing process. We successfully apply this method in our hospital in Çiğli, Izmir.

How is it done?

  • Laparoscopic Hernia Repair: The surgery is performed through several small incisions in the abdominal wall. A laparoscope (camera) and surgical instruments are inserted through these incisions.
  • By placing a mesh over the herniated area from the inside, the weakened area is strengthened and the organs are prevented from protruding again.
  • With the help of the camera, intra-abdominal images are transferred to the monitor and the surgeon uses these images to precisely complete the surgery.

What are the Symptoms?

Symptoms of a hernia can be as follows:

  • Swelling or protrusion in the groin, belly or surgery area
  • Pain or discomfort when standing, coughing or lifting something heavy
  • When pressed on the swelling, it goes inside (this type of hernia is called “reducible hernia”)
  • In advanced cases, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and severe pain

What are the Treatment Methods?

  • Laparoscopic Surgery: It is a method of repairing the hernia with small incisions and strengthening it with a patch. Since it is minimally invasive, the healing process is fast and the patient feels less pain.
  • Open Surgical Repair: It is the preferred method for larger or complex hernias. In this method, a larger incision is made.
  • Robotic Surgery: In cases requiring high precision, surgical procedures are performed with the help of a robot.

These methods aim to treat patients’ hernia problems safely and effectively, allowing a quick return to their daily lives.
