What is Laparoscopic Surgery?
Laparoscopic surgery is a method of operating on the abdominal and pelvic organs through small incisions. This technique offers advantages over traditional open surgery, such as less pain, shorter hospital stay and faster recovery. We safely apply this method in our hospital in Çiğli, Izmir.
How is it done?
- The surgery is performed through several small (0.5-1 cm) incisions in the abdomen. The area around the navel is usually preferred.
- Through these incisions, a thin camera called a laparoscope and surgical instruments are inserted into the abdominal cavity.
- The camera transmits images from inside the abdomen to the monitor and the surgeon operates on these images.
- This method provides a clearer view of organs and tissues so that surgical procedures can be performed more precisely.
In which cases is it applied?
Laparoscopic surgery can be used for many different conditions and diseases. These include:
- Gallbladder stones and inflammation
- Appendicitis problems
- Stomach and intestinal diseases
- Removal of cysts and tumors
- Gynecological diseases and gynecological surgeries (e.g. operations on the uterus or ovaries)
What are the Treatment Methods?
- Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy: The most common method of gallbladder surgery, in which the gallbladder is removed through small incisions.
- Laparoscopic Appendectomy: In cases where the appendix is inflamed, the appendix is removed laparoscopically.
- Laparoscopic Oncologic Surgery: Surgeries performed with minimally invasive methods to remove or treat cancerous tissues and organs.
Thanks to this method, patients feel less pain, can be discharged sooner and return to their daily activities faster than with traditional surgery.
