Gynecological and Obstetric Ultrasonography

What is Gynecological and Obstetric Ultrasonography?

Gynecological and obstetric ultrasonography is a safe, painless and radiation-free diagnostic method used to visualize women’s reproductive organs (uterus, ovaries) and the development of the baby during pregnancy. It is widely used to diagnose gynecological diseases and to monitor the pregnancy process.

How is it done?

In our center in Çiğli, Izmir, high-resolution images are obtained with advanced ultrasonography devices. Ultrasound can be performed in two ways:

  • Abdominal Application: Gel is applied to the abdomen and an image is taken with an ultrasound probe. This method is especially preferred for pregnancy follow-up.
  • Transvaginal Application: Detailed imaging is performed with a thin ultrasound probe inserted into the vagina. This method is used when the uterus and ovaries need to be examined more clearly.

In Which Situations Is It Used?

  • Pain in the abdomen or pelvic area
  • Menstrual irregularities and abnormal bleeding complaints
  • For pregnancy follow-up and monitoring the baby’s development
  • Examination of suspicious conditions such as ovarian cysts or uterine fibroids

What are the Methods Applied?

  • Diagnostic Ultrasonography: Used to assess the general condition of the female reproductive organs or to monitor pregnancy.
  • Color Doppler Ultrasonography: Used to check that the blood vessels and the baby’s blood circulation are healthy by examining the blood flow.
  • 3D/4D Ultrasonography: Three-dimensional (3D) or real-time (4D) images provide detailed examination and monitoring of the baby’s movements.

These methods make it possible to diagnose and monitor gynecological and obstetric problems in a painless and safe way.
